About Me

Debi Hinerfeld, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA

Debi Hinerfeld, PhD, OTR/L, FAOTA has been an occupational therapist for over 30 years, working with children, adolescents, and adults, in private practice, in schools, and in hospital settings. She is certified in Comprehensive Behavioral Interventions for Tics (CBIT) and has undergone post professional training and certification in sensory integration evaluation and intervention.  Debi completed her doctorate in Health Sciences with a focus in Healthcare Administration in June, 2017 and has taught at two graduate level occupational therapy programs in Atlanta, Georgia.

As a clinician, Debi utilizes her unique OT perspective that considers the whole person and the challenges of engagement and participation in meaningful activities that a person needs and wants to do. Debi enjoys using a collaborative, function-based approach with each of her clients, that promotes participation and independence, allowing each person to integrate new strategies to live life to its fullest.

In leadership, Debi loves working with others and promoting their up and coming leadership.  Working with others using a team based and collaborative approach, is a leadership style that Debi appreciates and enjoys.  With an awareness that everyone has something to contribute and that leadership is not an individual endeavor, Debi embraces how when everyone comes together with a common vision, great things can happen.

Personally, Debi has been married to her husband Alex for almost 30 years and has a 25 year-old daughter, Madelyn. Madelyn is in vet school at Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado where she and her husband Aaron live with their two cats and mini golden doodle. Debi loves animals and has a Goldendoodle and a cat. She spends her free time volunteering at a local dog shelter walking dogs. Debi enjoys being outside running or biking along the Chattahoochee River, travelling to diverse areas of the world (India and Africa are her favorite destinations), and spending time with friends and family.
